Official Statement on the MSU Gym Explosion, Marawi City
We
share the sadness and griefs of the bereaved families and friends of
the victims who died in a tragic explosion inside the Dimaporo Gym while
attending a mass Sunday morning (3 December 2023). Together with the
whole Mindanao State University and global community, we condemn the
senseless and barbaric act in the strongest sense.
MSU is
supposed to be a place of convergence of cultures, traditions and faiths
all over Mindanao, the country and world and a melting pot for holistic
development of the young. MSU is an academic community and a space
for.peacebuilding too. On this vision and mission, ALCOTHANS is founded
and inspired upon since its founding in the same campus in 1976.
We
are in deep sorrow but firm in our prayer for thorough investigation,
culprits must be brought before the law and justice be served to the
victims and survivors. Further, we.demand that this incident must not
only be an addition to the long-list of unsolved crimes and cases inside
the campus.
We call on students, parents, organizations and the
whole society from different faiths and tribes to strengthen our unity
and trust with one another and collectively protect and care for each
other.
