Protect IP Rights! No to ChaCha! - LRC

All Roads Lead to EDSA! LRC joined fellow indigenous rights advocates and various other movements yesterday in commemorating the EDSA People Power Revolution in protest of the renewed push for charter change.

Easing restrictions on foreign land ownership is like an eviction notice waiting to be served to indigenous communities. The proposed lifting of restrictions on foreign ownership of public utilities and the potential insertion of provisions opening up lands to foreign ownership promises prosperity.

Still, it's a one-sided deal that threatens to override the right to self -determination, ancestral domains, and free, prior, and informed consent of IPs with foreign investment guarantees. ☁️🌍

Charter Change, despite its promises, won't be the solution to poverty 🚫. Increasing Foreign Direct Investments is not a guarantee for poverty alleviation, as more developed economies, such as South Korea, in fact have less of it. 🌏

The real change that should be pursued is ensuring the security of the land tenure of indigenous communities, farmers, urban poor, and fisherfolk. 🛡️🌾The Center says no to Charter Change and yes to much-needed policy reforms, such as the Alternative Minerals Management Bill, and other green bills of the Philippine Greenprint. 🌱🤝
