Warming Up! Stirring People's Participation in local Governance.
The steering Committee for a People's Council in Sibagat underwent a mentoring session with the MLGOO on March 18, 2024. The said session was a follow-up as a priority in the planning of the volunteer steering committee members right after the People's Summit on February 31, 2024.
The mentoring session was mainly to facilitate the discussion for the members to level-off the understanding of the tasks and functions as steering committee towards institutionalization of a People's Council in the municipality.
Thru MLGO Officer Maricel Dumanglas the committee then was able to define its direction and the tasks necessary towards the People's Council establishment and a one-year plan of action was detailed - to encourage civil society organizations to get accreditation and be active in the local.governance mechanisms and public affairs; conduct profiling of CSOs and.initiate inventory, assessment and analysis of CSO needs and capacities; and tap all other resources and opportunities in coordination with the Municipal CSO Desk to enrich knowledge of the CSOs and the steering committee in understanding the People's Council and local governance mechanisms structures including that of what a People's Council tasks and functions in a benchmarking study from other municipalities, cities and or provinces.
The Local Government Unit of Sibagat thru the Municipal Administrator Dan Ralph Subla in a message called upon the steering committee and the whole civil society community to be active in the local affairs and further strengthen collaborations, partnerships and harmonious relationships with the LGU. With the hope that the vision and efforts of the LGU and the CSO community compliment.
The mentoring session was logistically supported and facilitated by the Municipal CSO Desk Office under the Office of the Municipal Mayor.
