A breath of Fresh Air:
Colors, Perspectives, Actions
19 youth and student leaders in a two-day workshop exchanged understanding, methods and experiences in organizing and leadership in today's young generation and laid down action points to implement the learning according to the respective contexts.
The session was started with an introduction on the historical and meaningful contribution of the youth in the global, Philippine and Mindanao struggles for independence, right to self-determination and collective assertions for social, climate and gender justice, human rights and peace. The youth were asked to journey-back together and recall significant events that the young people have played important roles. Contexts and analysis of every stop-overs (significant event or era) were discussed too.
There was a workshop also where the youth leaders discussed and presented the issues and concerns that have direct and indirect impact on them. These issues & concerns varies from the Ancestral Domain and environment to access to social services, human rights, social inequalities, disinformation, development aggression, etc.
The exchanges were followed by a discussion on the basic concepts and principles of human rights including the human rights situation today.
Basic concepts on Youth and Community organizing and Leadership were presented by the invited community organizers and leaders. These various concepts and universal orientation were debated and being understood in the current realities. It was agreed that there might be complexities and new platforms for organizing and leading but a grassroots and rooted organizing and leadership remains important.
Concrete plans as field-work were laid down by the attendees that would be assessed in few months.
Follow up sessions were discussed and will be worked out by the coordinating mechanism installed.
A collaborative effort of AMKP, MTWRC, ALTAHR, KAAGAPAY and TRIPOD as recommended in the previous discussions.
