INTERFAITH PEACE FORUM and SPORTS FOR PEACE HIGHLIGHTING THE ISSUES OF CLIMATE CHANGE AND THE PLIGHTS OF TYPHOON PAENG SURVIVORS - TRIPOD
Working with the co-convenors of this year's Mindanao Week of Peace in Cotabato City, the Tri-People Organization Against Disasters (TRIPOD) Foundation, Immaculate Conception Cathedral (ICC), HELP Mindanao, MTWRC, MPPM, KAAGAPAY, ALTAHR, MIHANDS, Task Force Barat and the Office of BTA Interim Parliament Member Atty. Suharto M. Ambolodto MNSA organized on Monday, November 28 an "Interfaith Peace Forum on Climate Change" held at Barangay Rosary Heights 11 covered court.
In this celebration, the perfectives of each Religion/Belief in the matter of peace and environment were discussed as to how they are valued in their respective beliefs, among those who gave religious perspectives are Ustadz Faisal Dacungan (Islam) and Timuay Allan Ulobalang (Indeginous People).
Cotabato City Deputy Mayors Abdullah Andang Al-Hajj for Muslim, Deputy Mayor for Indigenous People Noel Panalag, and Deputy Mayor for Christian Settler Art Thomas Calingasan also shared their support for the activity and affirmed their commitment to peacebuilding.
Atty. Suharto Ambolodto expresses the importance of unity and understanding one another, he also stressed environmental policies are crucial in establishing resilience within the Bangsamoro.
Some of the Paeng survivors Leah Moambing (IP), Rachma Nguda (Bangsamoro), and Merilyn Arquiza (Migrant Settler) also gave their stories, experiences, appeals and messages.
Also included in the celebration of the Mindanao Week of Peace (MWoP) was the holding of a Sports for Peace where parents and children played and bonded together in this significant moment which also happened to be a celebration of Children's Month.
Barangay Captain Mustapha "Bhoy" Esmael Jr. is very grateful that this Peace Forum was held in his baranga. According to him "My being a Muslim was never a hindrance to govern this Barangay with Christians and IPs as among the majority of the populace. We should lead as an example to celebrate peace with sincerity."
