Statement: On BSK 2023 Elections / Condemn Violence! Uphold Human Rights and Democracy! - AMKP, IM4PEACE

We join the whole residents and community actors in Cotabato City in condemning the different reported election-related violence in the city and in the nearby Maguindanao and Cotabato provinces.
 
Despite of the election gun ban, arms proliferation continues and armed confrontations persist. This eventually has a chilling effect on the credibility, quality and integrity of the upcoming October 30, 2023 Barangay and SK elections. The latest to put it concrete was the loss of three lives in Cotabato City that allegedly related to the two opposing camps for the Barangay post adding to the August and September 2023 armed confrontations of political clans in Maguindanao del Norte and del Sur.
 
As we join the global call for the cessation of violence in Palestine, Myanmar, Sudan, Ukraine, etc let us all in chorus call for a safe, democratic and credible elections come October 30.
 
The partisan manipulations and maneuvering on the BSKE 2023 by traditional political parties, political dynasties to ensure their control over turfs and influence as preparation for the upcoming 2025 local and first BARMM Regional elections and the 2028 national elections have insulted, tainted and maligned the credibility of the supposed to be a NON-PARTISAN BSKE process that resulted in displacements, killings and fears.
 
We call on the Commission on Elections, Commission on Human Rights, Bangsamoro Human Rights Commission, Department of Interior and Local Government, Ministry of Interior and Local Government, among other agencies to ensure the safeguard of the sanctity of the electoral process and sincerely investigate anomalies, violence and violations without jeopardizing the democratic participation of peoples and sectors.
 
We call on all voters, social organizations and all stakeholders to participate, monitor and document the whole electoral process with risks calculations.

From the Ancestral Domains to the world, let Peace and Human Rights Reign!
