Statement: Peace and Solidarity to the Palestinian People - AKMK

In the wake of the Hamas attack on Israel on October 6, Israeli forces retaliated with heavy airstrikes and ammunition on Central Gaza. The resulting devastation and displacement have left Palestinian residents in Gaza City in shock. Unfortunately, as of October 9, 2023, the human toll is staggering, with at least 510 Palestinians had been killed and 2,751 more had been wounded as a result of Israeli air attacks on the Gaza Strip in response to the Hamas offensive. In Israel, the number of people killed has reached 800, with more than 2,200 also wounded. Amid the humanitarian crisis, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant announced on Monday that authorities would impose a total siege and blockade on Gaza, cutting off electricity and preventing food and fuel supplies.

This ongoing deep-seated conflict and assault are the result of the Israeli government's long-running military occupation of Palestine, which has resulted in thousands of Palestinian civilians being displaced, injured, or killed. The situation has now devolved into apartheid, with most indigenous Palestinians facing institutionalized segregation imposed by Israeli policies. Although there have been attempts to reach a peaceful resolution through negotiations, these efforts have failed to end the atrocities and further displacement among Palestinians.

The atrocities occurring in Gaza and throughout Palestine are similar to the horrors we have already experienced and continue to experience in Mindanao as our peace negotiations are sometimes subjected to political bargaining and positioning, which further polarizes certain groups or peoples, such as the Non-moro Indigenous People (NMIP) in the Bangsamoro Region.

Hence, AKMK believes that peace is impossible when lives are at risk and when a certain group is persistently targeted. Our alliance's strength lies in the belief that inclusive peace is the only path to a just and lasting peace. It is our duty to call for international solidarity for Gaza and demand an immediate response from the international community to address the worsening humanitarian crisis as well as to put pressure on the Israeli government to follow basic principles of international law and international humanitarian law to put an end to their atrocities.

The alliance would want to reiterate its consistent position that the future of the Tri-People Youth, in solidarity with all the young generations in Palestine, is NON-NEGOTIABLE.
