The Solidarity Walk and Candle Lighting Ceremony, organized by the KASAMA Committee to pray and honor the victims of the recent tragedies, was graced with the presence of our dear Chancellor, Professor Alizedney M. Ditucalan, and with the Vice Chancellor for Student Services, Dr. Rohane Derogongan; the OSDS Director, Asst. Prof. Phyllis Marie S. Teanco; and the Director of Office of Business Affairs (OBA), Director of Office Residential and Food Services, and KASAMA Adviser, Asst. Prof. Cheryl C. Encabo, on December 15, 2023.
Considerate and sensitive to the unfortunate events, especially those involving students, Chancellor Alizedney commended KASAMA’s decision to postpone the planned General Assembly and Year-End Celebration (GAYEC) as he attended the ceremony. During his opening remarks, he also encouraged students to stand against despair with persistent hopes amidst being covered by the world’s veil of chaos. He also expressed great gratitude to those who have fearlessly volunteered to lend their help and support during the MSU-Main crisis.
Mx. IIT Influencer Zhea Sanchez spearheaded the event as the Master of Ceremonies (MC), while the Christ Youth in Action (CYA) and Christians on Campus (COC) offered interfaith prayers.
As the end of the ceremony drew near, Senator Hermione Sansona and Franzyn Maryel Incon delivered their tribute song while the KASAMA President, Lugille Castardo, concluded the event.
Together, we stand with those who have lost families, loved ones, and partners, and those who are weathering storms amidst hardships. We are with you as we go through this insurmountable grief.
With our greatest condolences, we pray that the light of these candles, in this shared moment of reflection, prayer, and hope, illuminates the victims' paths and guides them to eternal rest.
