Alyansa
Tigil Mina joins the whole country and the international community in
the Global Day of Action for Climate Justice to demand solutions to the
climate crisis and build power for system change.
Our members in
various Sites of Struggles are mobilizing to show our solidarity with
all climate advocates fighting for climate justice.
Together
with various organizations, we call on governments and stakeholders to
uphold human rights alongside climate justice. We believe there can be
no climate justice without human rights. This means the fulfillment of
everyone’s human rights must be included in the just solutions to the
climate crisis.
Many human rights are affected by climate
change, including the right to a clean, healthy and sustainable
environment, right to water and sanitation, right to self-determination
and right to health. Along with other human rights, these are the same
rights that are being violated in communities affected by large-scale
mining.
As we call on government to address the climate
emergency, we also demand a stop to destructive mining operations and
the re-imposition of the ban on open-pit mining. We believe that mining
worsens the impact of climate change at the same time that it
contributes to climate change.
Furthermore, we warn governments
and huge corporations against using the so-called transition minerals
for clean energy as a justification for indiscriminate mining. We reject
the shameless opportunism of corporations and institutions that push
for more mining as they offer what are deemed to be “false solutions” to
the climate crisis.
We stand with all forces calling for system change, climate justice and human rights.
