The atrocity committed in Mindanao State University Main Campus (Marawi) deserves nothing less than our strongest and most forceful condemnation. Acts of violence have no place in our communities, most especially those that target religious gatherings.
I extend my heartfelt
condolences to the victims and their families. In this difficult moment,
let us unite and remember that every human life is sacred. More than
and even before our man-made laws, the Qur’an and the life of the
Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) have shown us the importance
of respecting all religions, especially those of the people of the
book—Christianity, Judaism, and Islam.
I call on the people of
Marawi to strengthen, even as we grieve, our resolve to safeguard our
communities from violent, extreme, and, above all, un-Islamic
ideologies. Together, let us work towards a future where acceptance and
understanding prevail.
