Published via Bagat Notes: April 9, 2020

Amidst Community Quarantine and COVID-19 threats, Sibagat, Agusan del Sur thru the Municipal Agriculture Office launches the LISO SA KINABUHI initiative.

LSK aims to compliment the efforts of the government and private sectors in the municipality for the households to cope with the uneasy situation. 6 variety of garden seeds were distributed targeting those in the below poverty line residents of the municipality. First wave already reached 1,298 households for the whole 24 barangays.

LISO SA KINABUHI hopes to serve 3,299 beneficiaries prioritizing the 1,298 household below poverty line, 185 households with malnourished children and 350 municipal employees that have served as frontliners too.

There are around 1,466 LISO SA KINABUHI Vegetable packs open for those interested residents/availers. One can communicate the Municipal Agriculture Office page or any of the MAO personnel (Miss Conney Anunciado thru fb) you knew and mechanics will be explained to you.

Seeds may be little but like in the Bible passage about a mustard seed. Once grown, it will surely give life, shade and wellness to a family and the community. A seed of a living faith will bring you a blessing of life.

In this quarantine period vegetable gardening have been encouraged and even many have opted to initiate backyard and container gardening. As a way of maximizing time, keep away from boredom and grow own food since mobility is very limited and other reasons.

Second wave is underway.

The MLGU and MAO also have encouraged organizations and individuals to share and swap seeds among neighbors and communities with utmost reminder to observe the necessary protocols.
MLGU also hopes for more seeds to come in the coming days. It also welcomes seed donations from private organizations and individuals.

Sibagat is a member of the League of Organic Agriculture Municipalities, Cities and Provinces in the Philippines.

Note: 20% of the farmers in the municipality belongs to the below poverty line matrix.

Farmers must live well and be served well.

The answer? "Liso sa Kinabuhi". An LGU initiated program which aims to ensure food security and nutrition among Sibagatnons. A challenge for Sibagatnons below poverty threshold, those with malnourished children, employees, farmers and other Sibagatnon alike to grow their own food thru backyard gardening. We choose to heal as one. We choose to go back to the soil. We choose to heal our environment, by coming together, working hand in hand with love and respect for nature. We choose to go back to the basics. We choose to grow our own food. We choose health. We choose life for a healthy and sustainable Sibagat. How about you?
