We strongly condemn the heinous act of violence that resulted in the ambush and killing of Timuay Juanito Promboy, the Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representative (IPMR) of Brgy Tuayan, Datu Hoffer Maguindanao, on April 29, 2024, around 2:00 pm in the said Barangay. We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of Timuay Juanito Promboy, as well as to the two other individuals who sustained wounds and are currently receiving medical care in the hospital.
This attack on innocent tribal leaders and civilians from the Tรซduray tribe is a reprehensible act that must be condemned in the strongest possible terms. Such violence not only inflicts immense suffering on the victims and their communities but also undermines peace and stability in the region.
We call on the authorities to swiftly investigate this cowardly attack and bring the perpetrators to justice. Additionally, we urge all stakeholders to work together to prevent further violence and promote peace and justice.
The timing of this assault, coinciding with the visit of His Excellency President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to Barira, Maguindanao Del Norte, is deeply concerning. It emphasizes the critical imperative for collaborative endeavors to tackle the fundamental drivers of conflict and advance enduring peace and development in the region.
