Rejoice and Commit: Ceasefire in the Holy Land, a breathing air to a flourishing future we pray

The Filipino Katoliko Church welcomes the announcement of a ceasefire in the Holy Land with hope for a lasting peace for the people in the region and the world.

The Holy Land has a meaning and significance for billions of people around the world. We are obliged to ensure that a collectively shaped peace defines its future.

We have witnessed 15 months of devastation, deaths, displacement, suffering and uncertainty mostly orphaned children, widowed mothers and fathers and even eliminated a generation of Palestinians.

The ceasefire offers a critical opportunity for the parties to mutually end this senseless violence, jointly and openly look-back to the root-causes, reflect on the collaterals, and rebuild the damaged physical, emotional,.socio-cultural, diplomatic and inter-nationality relationships and infrastructures toward a future defined not by hate but by understanding, justice, and peace.

This is a breathing space for the humanitarian groups responding to the immeasurable pain and trauma and unimaginable destruction and costs on lives, properties, infrastructures and governance systems.

Though the situation remains fragile, but the ceasefire should be seen as not just the silencing of the guns but a crucial and important step towards total and democratic cessation of conflict. An opportunity to build a legacy that coexistence can be real and not just a possibility.

It is not an easy road ahead but let us pray for all actors to be sincere and touched by the dreams for peace of the children in Palestine, in Israel and in the world. Peace maybe abstract technically but as a process must be guided with mutual respect, justice, human rights, and people's well-being. Peace is a shared process and not impositions of powerful or bigger actors over the other.

Let this moment be the beginning of a new era in the troubled land where dialogue and coexistence reign over violence and domination.

In this historic days, let us take this as an opportune moment to address the long-standing grievances and injustices. Let the international instruments be respected and upheld without prejudice.

Let us give way to a shared peace and happiness of all people in the Holy Land. Our holistic outlook together will be built and shall flourish.

We call on the global community to support the ceasefire with strong commitment to justpeace.
