Mindanao Human Rights and Peace groups on Israel military attack to Iran: Nuclear Disarmament, Diplomacy and Democracy Now!

We strongly condemn the Israeli military attack on Iranian territory that has reportedly claimed civilians, scientists and military leaders, hit nuclear development sites. In response, Iran retaliated with waves of drone attacks and withdrew from the diplomatic table on its nuclear program. This marks a dangerous escalation to the already fragile peace situation in the region.

 

Israel, widely believed to possess nuclear warheads, remains the only nuclear-armed state in the region. Thus, if Israel and its strongest ally United States of America are truly committed in disarmament of nuclear weapons, they must also seriously demonstrate to the world from their own yards and actively engage in nuclear disarmament efforts towards global non-proliferation– including the implementation of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW).

 

We believe that actions like these only justify and amplify the voices arguing nuclear deterrence is necessary to address existential threats, and preserve national sovereignty. The proliferation then would only create large-scale threats rather than prevention.

 

We stand with all people in Iran, Palestine, Israel, Middle East, Europe, the Americas and across the world resisting autocratic regimes and imperialist domination. Our resistance stands strong, powered by people to people solidarity.

 

A country and its people cannot sustainably preserve itself by annihilating others but it can only build a community of nations by building trust and strengthening peace.

 

A new multilateral institution and community of nations can be collectively built. 

 

The United Nations as an institution for the unity of the community of nations have already played its post-WWII and Cold war role, it’s time to build a new one with accountability and that proportionately and democratically represents the global community. The concept and framework of the limitless power of the permanent five (5) members of the Security Council should be replaced by accountable, democratically and proportionately elected members.

 

We strongly demand warring countries and their allies to immediately stop all military actions.

All diplomatic talks addressing nuclear weapon development and possessions anywhere in the world must resume. All countries and states must join and implement the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW).

 

We join the global call for the international community and actors to reject further escalation, uphold international law, and invest in a diplomatic path that promotes disarmament, human and planetary security and invest to all diplomatic means in resolving conflicts like this.

 

We call on the Philippine government to cut and terminate all of its diplomatic ties and all forms of cooperation with Israel; shut down the Israel embassy in Makati; and, recall all diplomats and OFWs in Israel.
