Youth and Climate Conference Launches Empowered Youth Organization in Maguindanao del Norte

Statement of Support and Congratulations to the Empowered Youth Organization

The Alyansa ng mga Mamamayan para sa Karapatang Pantao (AMKP) extends its highest commendations and warmest congratulations to the Empowered Youth Organization (EYO) on the successful holding of its historic Launching General Assembly cum Youth and Climate Conference on August 30.
This landmark event carries profound symbolic and strategic weight. Convening on the eve of National Heroes Day, it honors our nation's legacy of struggle by birthing a new generation of youth leaders. Moreover, taking place just two weeks before the historic first BARMM Regional Parliamentary Elections on September 14, this assembly underscores the vital, unwavering role of the youth in shaping the democratic future and political landscape of the Bangsamoro region.
AMKP takes immense pride in having walked alongside the tri-people youth of Cotabato City and Maguindanao del Norte from the very beginning. From our early preliminary discussions—particularly during joint advocacies on the Privatization of the Agus-Pulangi Hydroelectric Complex—to this historic founding assembly, we have witnessed the unwavering dedication of these young leaders to social justice, democracy, and human rights.
Throughout the assembly, the Climate Crisis took center stage as a critical issue deeply interwoven with the daily realities of the youth. The discussions clearly articulated how environmental degradation directly intersects with existing political and economic systems, governance structures, and prevailing development orientations. Facilitated by AMKP, the learning sessions explored the multidimensional impact of government policies:

> Political Dimension: Demanding democratic participation, institutional accountability, and climate justice within different layers of governance.

> Economic Dimension: Challenging profit-driven development orientations and resource privatization that compromise community sustainability.

> Socio-Cultural Dimension: Safeguarding the rights, lands, and heritage of tri-people communities against climate vulnerability and displacement.

Far beyond a ceremonial gathering, the assembly laid down concrete, actionable steps to drive meaningful, sustainable campaigns across campuses and grassroots communities. By formally adopting its Orientation Paper, Plan of Action, and Constitution and By-Laws, alongside electing its inaugural Executive Committee, Area Representatives, and Independent Grievance Committee, the Empowered Youth Organization has established a solid institutional foundation grounded in accountability, inclusivity, and progressive action.
AMKP stands firm in its commitment to accompany EYO in its journey ahead. We remain fully open to solidifying our partnership with the organization and its newly elected leadership as we collectively champion youth rights, human rights, environmental justice, and genuine youth empowerment.

Mabuhay ang Empowered Youth Organization!
Mabuhay ang kabataang nagtatanggol sa karapatan, kalikasan, at bayan!
